Sophie Lalande

PhD

Originally from Montreal, Sophie earned her PhD at the University of Auckland studying the impact of type 2 diabetes on the cardiovascular response to exercise. She was awarded an American Heart Association Postdoctoral Fellowship to study the effect of changes in intrathoracic pressure on cardiac function in heart failure at the Mayo Clinic, and was the recipient of a Marie Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship from the European Respiratory Society to study pulmonary vascular distensibility during aerobic exercise at the Université Libre de Bruxelles. Sophie then led the Clinical Exercise Physiology Laboratory at the University of Texas at Austin where she studied the effect of intermittent hypoxia on hematological variables, vascular function and glycemic control. In Fall 2024, Sophie joined the Integrative Physiology of Aging Laboratory as a Senior Research Associate where her research focuses on the effect of inspiratory muscle strength training on endothelial function. Sophie enjoys ice hockey (Montreal Canadiens), k-pop, and traveling.
